Mechanical and Engineering (M&E) is still a rather new service in Malaysia. M&E management is also more commonly known as Building Services here. However these terms carry different meanings. This may lead most of you to question what Mechanical and Engineering (M&E) is all about. To put it simply, Mechanical and Engineering (M&E) refers to the mechanical and electrical systems installed and operated by a facility management company in facilities management.

The words ‘ M&E’ /’ M&E engineer’ are often considered synonymous with’ building services’ or building services engineer’.  Mechanical and Engineering (M&E) engineers are often granted a degree in mechanical, electrical or M&E engineering. Whereas, Building Service Engineers can get the Chartered Engineer status through the Building Services Engineers Chartered Institution. Mechanical and electrical engineering, however, can be a broader sector than this, covering fields beyond construction and design, such as; large-scale power generation and transmission, transportation systems, heating and ventilation, industrial installations and so on.
